Kaila is the outcast middle child of her dysfunctional family, which the player becomes quickly familiar with throughout the game. Visually, Kaila’s core inspirations were the characters Strength (Black Rock Shooter), Yang Xiao Long (RWBY), Rebecca (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), Vi (Arcane/LOL) and Doomfist (Overwatch), all of which share the physical trait of having large mechanical arm augments (some prosthetics, some external weapons) in which they use to fight. Strength and Rebecca’s attributes were perhaps the strongest in inspiring Kaila’s design, as they both have large prosthetic gauntlets on a smaller body type, further pushing the ‘larger than life’ design pillar within the project. In personality, however, Kaila is primarily influenced by the characters Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill), Pearl Houzuki (Splatoon 2) and Ryuji Sakamoto (Persona 5), all of which fit the ‘delinquent’ trope seen in a lot of Japanese media. These characters initially come across as wild and undisciplined, but deep down believe strongly and loudly in their morals - an attitude that fits Kaila and her motives within the game perfectly. Additionally, both Ryuko and Pearl have a background that involves hailing from a powerful/rich family with strong connections to their city, which Kaila’s background also mirrors.
